WHAT DOES A SCHOOL COUNSELOR DO?

 

ELEMENTARY:             Assists students to learn the skills and attitudes

necessary to be successful learners and works

with students to address their career, personal-

social, and educational needs and concerns

 

1.     Classroom presentations and large group activities:

              Group guidance and elective classes

 

     Guidance Pre-K – Grade Eight

              Area I:        Career Planning and Exploration

              Area II:      Knowledge of Self and Others

              Area III:     Educational and Vocational Development

 

2.     Individual student planning for academic and career planning:

Development of short-term and long range education and career plans

 

3.     Individual and small group counseling, consultation, and referral:

Helping students with personal goals and concerns, and with educational progress

    

4.     Management activities to support the guidance program and

other school programs:

              Helping with various activities and testing
